Somnia, the Layer-1 blockchain designed for high-demand consumer applications, has announced the results of its Devnet benchmarking tests, reiterating its ambition to set new standards for blockchain scalability and efficiency.
In a test environment designed to simulate real-world conditions, Somnia demonstrated exceptional capabilities by processing up to 1.05 million transactions per second (tps) for ERC-20 token transfers.
Highlights from the Somnia Devnet include processing 300,000 NFT mints per second with an average block time of 100ms. In addition, the Devnet achieved 50,000 Uniswap trades per second using 100,000 accounts conducting random transactions to mimic real-world usage.
“Our technology is designed to support the demanding requirements of high-performance dApps while maintaining exceptional performance and cost-efficiency, and these impressive results validate our approach,” said Paul Thomas, Founder and CEO of Somnia. “These results have exceeded our expectations, showcasing Somnia’s ability to push past the usual limitations of blockchain technology. We’re opening the door to a new era of fully on-chain applications, where speed and scalability are no longer barriers for developers. With the Testnet on the horizon, we’re excited to see how the community builds on this momentum.”
To achieve these metrics, Somnia utilized robust infrastructure across multiple data centers including machines equipped with up to 32 vCPUs and 120GB of RAM, featuring the 4th and 5th generation AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon processors.
Key performance metrics include:
– 1.05 million TPS for ERC-20 transfers with sub-second latencies (mean: 900ms)
– 50 Gigagas processed per second
– Throughput of 300,000 NFT mints per second.
– 50,000 Uniswap trades per second
– Block time of 100 milliseconds
– Network participation of 100 test nodes in geographically diverse regions.
Developed by Improbable, Somnia’s architecture incorporates advanced features including a custom EVM compiler, while its sophisticated data compression methods enable high-volume transaction processing. These features provide developers with the tools they need to seamlessly spin up impactful, user-friendly dApps.
Somnia’s upcoming public testnet launch will let developers and community members experience the Layer-1’s capabilities first-hand. The milestone represents a significant step forward in Somnia’s mission to advance web3 technology and create exciting new possibilities for application development.
As the ecosystem continues to refine its technology, it remains committed to ensuring consistent performance improvements, working toward even faster transaction speeds, and reduced latencies in future iterations.
About Somnia
Somnia is the fastest and most cost-effective EVM Layer-1 blockchain, capable of processing over 1 million transactions per second (tps) with sub-second finality. Somnia’s new multi-stream consensus technology achieves sub-second block certainty and higher transaction throughput. Sequential execution and compression algorithms effectively handle high-density scenarios, increasing the amount of data transferred between nodes by 10-20x. The custom database IceDB achieves 15-100 nanosecond read/write times, reducing transaction costs to less than a penny. This makes Somnia an ideal platform for building large-scale, real-time applications in games, social, metaverse, finance, and other fields, serving millions of users, all on-chain, making EVM more efficient than ever before.
