Enterprise-grade blockchain platform Kadena and the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) have announced a four-year partnership to give Croatian national team fans “a seamless digital fan engagement experience.”
Notably, according to the press release, since the partnership lasts through 2028, it will encompass several massive global football events. This includes the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 UEFA Euro Cup.
Established in 1912, the Croatian Football Federation (Hrvatski nogometni savez, or HNS) is the governing body for football in this EU country. It holds a key role in organizing, managing, developing, and promoting the highly successful and popular national team.
HNS President Marijan Kustić commented that HNS aims to ensure “the development of Croatian football for the future, aligned with trends not only in sports but also in society as a whole.” This is particularly te case among football enthusiasts and Croatian national team fans.
“The world of fan experiences is evolving as rapidly as new technologies like cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence become part of our everyday lives, and we are keeping pace with and furthering this development through our VATRENI project,” Kustić said.
Meanwhile, Kadena was founded in the US in 2017 by Stuart Popejoy and Will Martino. They created JP Morgan’s first blockchain in 2016 and served on the US Securities and Commission (SEC)’s Crypto Committee. With its smart contract language Pact, it offers tools for building developer-friendly blockchain applications that address real-world needs, the team said.
VATRENI Migrates from Polygon to Kadena
The Kadena-HNS partnership enables access to VIP experiences and introduces high-visibility activations. However, it will also see the migration of the HNS ERC-20 fan token, VATRENI, from Polygon to Kadena via the Kinesis Bridge.
The press release said that this is the “migration of one of the first EVM-based projects to the Kadena ecosystem with the introduction of Kadena’s upcoming Chainweb EVM technology.”
Meanwhile, HNS launched the Vatreni loyalty token (named after the national team, ‘The Fiery Ones’/’Those of Fire’) in January 2022. This move opened up a variety of exclusive benefits and experiences, as well as new merch and online challenges.
The Vatreni coin currently trades at $0.5412, having gone up 8% in a day. It’s also up 26% in a month and 42% in a year.
It hit its all-time high of $1 in November 2022, falling 45.92% since. On the other hand, it’s up 981% since its lowest price of $0.05005 recorded in July 2024.

“The goal with the [VATRENI] token is to push the boundaries of traditional fan engagement opportunities of the past and introduce more of a future-focused fan experience,” said Joel Woodman, Kadena’s Head of Partnerships.
“We’re looking forward to working with our partners to integrate a variety of new technology into the Croatian Football Federation ecosystem including AI tools, virtual experiences, and personalized activations, bringing an entirely new dynamic to the fan experience,” he added.
Meanwhile, HNS previously announced VATRENIX, which it described as an advanced digital collection that combines digital and physical products in a futuristic story, but the team has not provided a launch date yet.
