An Emerging Era of Crypto Spending

Mercuryo has introduced ‘Spend’, an exclusive crypto debit card powered by Mastercard, thereby taking an important step toward linking digital assets with everyday finance. Co-developed with Ledger, the global frontrunner in digital asset security, the Spend card lets users convert and spend their cryptocurrency holdings just as effortlessly as fiat currency—both online and in-store.

Already accessible to customers throughout the European Economic Area (EEA), the Spend card enables users to purchase with more than 150 million merchants worldwide wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Smooth Integration with Ledger Live

Spend is fully integrated into Ledger Live, Ledger’s companion app for overseeing cryptocurrencies and NFTs. In turn, users can instantly and fee-free activate their card, drawing funds directly from their own self-custody wallets. At the moment, the card allows spending in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), while soon to extend support for a wider array of stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies.

Petr Kozyakov, Co-Founder and CEO of Mercuryo, said, “We are thrilled to introduce Spend into Ledger, the eminent non-custodial hardware wallet beloved by crypto enthusiasts for democratizing self-custody in a stylish package.”

Granting Users Flexibility and Full Control

By putting the user first, the Spend card features adjustable monthly spending limits of up to €40,000 and is compatible with both Apple Pay and Google Pay for extra convenience. It also incorporates Mastercard’s global payment network, providing both consumers and merchants with enhanced security and the full array of consumer protections, including stringent AML and KYC compliance.

This is the second service to be rolled out by Mercuryo for Ledger Live users, following on from its crypto-purchase offerings. Card offerings that connect seamlessly with users’ self-custody wallets deliver the optimum experience, Jean-François Rochet, EVP of Consumer Services at Ledger, comments.

Streamlining Web3 Payments

Mercuryo remains at the forefront of Web3 payment innovation, delivering simplified on-chain transactions and weaving multiple banking methods into a seamless interface. Since 2018, Mercuryo has teamed up with leading players throughout the crypto ecosystem, including MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and PancakeSwap.

Celebrating its 10-year milestone in 2024, Ledger continues to anchor digital asset security, relied on by more than seven million users and standing guard over 20% of the planet’s crypto assets. Amid a year in which upwards of $14 billion were pilfered by fraud and theft, solutions such as Spend stand as an essential progression in secure, accessible digital finance.

Conclusion:

The introduction of the Spend card constitutes a watershed moment in crypto adoption, converting digital tokens into tangible real-world spending power with the support of trusted industry leaders. Thanks to its integrated end-to-end experience, worldwide accessibility, and stringent security focus, Spend moves crypto another step toward everyday utility.
