In a May 15 attempt to rob a crypto mining business, authorities in Paraguay deported three offenders and arrested another in the town and districts of Coronel Bogado.

Prosecutor Irene Rolon said in a May 15 televised interview with local news station Monumental TV, claiming that the group had hacked into computer servers used in crypto-mining and accessed a secured area of the facility with access restricted by lock.

The case would be unearthed when the local officials received a local tip concerning a locked room in the mining facility. As they opened the door four Chinese nationals were inside.

According to Rolon, the people did not speak Spanish, although authorities could identify the individuals using digital translation and documents that they were mainland Chinese.

Investigators demanded to see the passports of the people and found out that three came into the country without any permission of the law.

The authorities in Paraguay summoned the Interpol machines and identified the fact that the people had no documents of the legal entry into Paraguay. The gang was said to have entered through Bolivia and Brazil.

Investigation, Motive and Criminal

Police believe the mugging was related to an ongoing trend in the city by a gang of thieves who specializes in stealing high-priced electronics.

When the person was arrested, he was taken to the hospital with a critical condition and then moved to a normal ward. Recently, authorities have not shown any explanation to why he was hospitalized.

Investigators have still not had the chance to have a complete interview with him to prove what the exact aim of the group is. According to preliminary investigation, the law enforcement agencies suspect that the group was interested in stealing the servers and other computing devices in the facility.

Police are also endeavoring to find and track down more people who were associated with the attempted robbery. According to Rolon, the police have a preliminary data that can help in capturing the other culprits.

The criminal case is still in process, and the Public Ministry is also organizing the work with Interpol and immigration-office.

Unacceptable Work and Managerial Practice

The four claimed before the investigators that they were programmers who had been employed by the company that runs the mining facility. Nevertheless, with no documentation they still could be treated as employees under investigation.

According to Rolon, the employer was also not showing any evidence of employment relationship yet. The owner of the company promised to bring the corresponding paperwork by May 16.

The prosecutor pointed out that the process of expelling the undocumented started as soon as after the arrest.

Based on the continued interviews and reviewing of the documents, the legal status of employment of the Chinese nationals and other accusations on attempted theft will be decided.
