AI can enhance sports viewership experience: IOC

The evolving technology of artificial intelligence (AI) has potential to enhance the viewership experience of sports fans, believes Aditya Aditya, Head of Media Business Strategy & Intelligence, International Olympic Committee.

Aditya, who was speaking at the second edition of the RCB’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, stated that with the help of new technology and innovation, AI can be implemented for personalized content for fans.

Aditya further said that, “We could be using AI to make sure that fans can have the voice of a leading commentator. Translated to India, it could be a leading commentator who exists now, a leading Bollywood character, or the character of your choice.”

Famous personalities like Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Dravid have also highlighted the importance of the use of AI in cricket for athletes and fans. Even many cricket boards, like Cricket Australia and England Cricket, have also accepted the use of AI for engaging their fans.

Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has implemented the use of AI in its ICC tournaments, like the Champions Trophy, for revolutionizing the fans’ experience and for their engagement in the entire tournament.

Aditya also emphasized the importance of including cricket in the Olympics. He also emphasized the role of artificial intelligence in revolutionizing fans’ experiences and engagement.

At the event he said that, “Cricket was one of the big things for us. We wanted to make sure that cricket becomes part of the Olympics. And the mission was obvious: how can we get closer to every fourth person in the world that is living in India and the subcontinent? Imagine cricket stars sitting and watching athletics and swimming or hanging out with Neeraj Chopra. Those moments go a long way in creating those stories.”

He highlighted a few points in sports and how cricket could increase the interest of fans in other sports too. He further added that, “India is a leader in media consumption and digital innovation. With a massive audience of over 1.4 billion people, the opportunities are tremendous. We are excited about the prospects in commercial programs and how they can translate into new opportunities for our partners to engage.”
