Arbitrum has announced a significant integration with BitcoinOS (BOS), transforming its layer-2 network into a hybrid rollup that combines the best features of Ethereum and Bitcoin

This collaboration marks a groundbreaking shift, offering a robust and interoperable scalability solution between the two ecosystems.

Thanks to this innovation, Arbitrum users will now be able to access the 2 trillion dollar liquidity of Bitcoin in a trustless manner, being able to exchange and transfer assets between Bitcoin and Ethereum with near-instant finality

Furthermore, this integration opens new possibilities for developers, who will be able to create DeFi products based on Bitcoin, overcoming current limitations.

The integration with BitcoinOS and the advantages of the Grail Bridge

BitcoinOS introduces BitSNARK, an innovative technology that enables trustless bridging of BTC through BOS Grail, a non-custodial transfer system that drastically reduces counterparty risk compared to currently available solutions.

With this new integration, Arbitrum One will leverage the security of Bitcoin, ensuring scalability, liquidity, and interoperability between the two networks. Currently, Arbitrum holds the highest TVL among all layer-2s, with over 16 billion dollars, and this integration will further contribute to consolidating its leadership in the sector.

“The integration of BitcoinOS with Arbitrum demonstrates how our technology can support the expansion of the Bitcoin ecosystem,” stated Nina Rong, Head of Partnerships at Arbitrum Foundation. “This collaboration shows our commitment to enabling trustless bridging and programmability for Bitcoin, without compromising the security of the network.”

According to Edan Yago, main contributor of BitcoinOS, “BOS has unlocked the ZK technology necessary for Bitcoin to communicate with other ecosystems, allowing any blockchain to develop and innovate on Bitcoin, the most secure network of all.” This revolutionary change eliminates the competition and fragmentation between Ethereum and Bitcoin, creating a unified and complementary solution.

Thanks to Arbitrum and BOS, users will now be able to leverage the benefits of Ethereum L2 without being limited by Bitcoin’s native scaling solutions. This means greater efficiency, security, and a scalable infrastructure for DeFi applications and dApps.

Security, speed, and guaranteed purpose

One of the main problems of Bitcoin has always been the lack of smart contract functionality, which has isolated its enormous liquidity of 2 trillion dollars from Ethereum’s DeFi applications. The integration with Arbitrum and BOS represents a groundbreaking development: with the Grail system, users will be able to access the entire Bitcoin ecosystem in a trustless manner, without the centralization risks of solutions like Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), which currently holds over 129,000 BTC on the Ethereum network.

Furthermore, thanks to BOS Grail Vaults, withdrawals from Arbitrum to Bitcoin will occur without the 7-day waiting periods that characterize many optimistic rollups, ensuring fast and secure transactions with immediate finality.

The integration of Arbitrum with BitcoinOS marks a new era for decentralized finance on Bitcoin. With improved scalability, enhanced security, and interoperability between the two largest blockchain ecosystems, users and developers will have access to a wider market, with unprecedented opportunities for innovation.
