Beamable raises $13.5 mn in Series A funding; How DePIN projects will transform live gaming experience?

The Beamable Network, projectedd to be one of the top 10 DePIN projects globally, received $13.5 million in Series A funding on Tuesday, led by the early-stage investment platform for gaming BITKRAFT Ventures. Alongside the funding received from BITKRAFT Ventures, it also saw financing by Arca, Advancit Capital, 2Punks, P2 Ventures, Solana Foundation, Scytale Digital, defy.vc, Grand banks Capital and Permit Ventures.

The received funding is set to be utilised for the expansion of Beamble Network. The Beamable network recently on 27 Jan announced the launch of the Beamble Foundation to transform the gaming industry via open-source technology and Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN).

Beamable to accelerate DePIN gaming infrastructure

As the pioneer in the development of decentralised gaming infrastructure, it aims to reduce dominance of centralised gaming centres dominated by hyperscalers. It intends to build robust and decentralised back-end gaming infra for the improvisation of the live gaming services.  From its earlier development of games like “Game of Thrones Ascent” and “Star Trek Timelines”, it has now ascended to provide backend infra for the game developers. By providing token incentives and community-driven participation, it aims to use DePIN for the contribution of computing power storage, and network resources from participants. The customizable access given by Beamable Network to the developers will allow them to develop their own software modules and services on the network. It will also enable the open-source development and the creation of a tokenized protocol, ensuring that developers have a robust alternative to traditional cloud providers.

As the gaming industry is already projected to generate $200 billion in revenue by 2025, Beamable network is already poised to make its way into the Top 10 DePIN Projects by launch.

How DePIN can resolve centralised gaming issues

Centralised gaming continues to be daunted by many issues such as high infrastructure costs, server crashes due to overloads as in case of Fortnite and Apex Legends, Privacy & data control issues along with risk of censorship & platform control. However, the development of DePIN networks can distribute game server workloads across multiple nodes, reducing the possibility of server crashes and downtime. Moreover, the Blockchain-based identity systems allow gamers to access the gaming services without exposing their personal information. It also gives players a chance to earn direct rewards in crypto without third-party cuts. The full sense of ownership given to players and developers using Decentralized infrastructure will accelerate the transformation of the gaming industry. Apart from Beamable, there are other such DePIN projects leading the gaming transformation such as:

  • Filecoin (FIL) – Decentralized game asset storage
  • Arweave (AR) – Permanent game data storage
  • Livepeer (LPT) – Decentralized video streaming for gaming content
  • Theta Network (THETA) – Peer-to-peer game streaming rewards
  • Beamable – as mentioned, for Open-source backend for multiplayer games
  • Xai Network – Blockchain gaming infrastructure for Play-to-Earn
  • GameSwift – Decentralized gaming ecosystem

The DePIN projects besides being utilised in the gaming industry are gaining prominence in other areas too such as Helium leading Wirelss IoT & 5G Networks, Filecoin in the arena of decentralized storage and Render making efforts in distribjted GPU rendering.
