CFTC sets out to finally end crypto regulation by enforcement

The CFTC is reportedly restructuring its enforcement division in a major overhaul that is expected to put to an end regulation by enforcement.

This is also expected to restore market integrity, enabling the agency to utilize its resources to limit fraud, manipulation, and abuse. The CFTC believes that structuring will help enhance consistency, fairness, and due processes, and prevent agency overreach.

Previous enforcement task forces will now be simplified into two new task forces, the Complex Fraud Task Force and the Retail Fraud General Enforcement Task Force. The Complex Fraud Task Force will be responsible for all preliminary inquiries, investigations, and litigation connected to complex fraud and manipulation across all asset classes. Its acting chief executive officer will be Deputy Director Paul Hayeck.

The Retail Fraud and General Enforcement Taskforce will focus on retail fraud while handling general matters that entail other violations of the commodity exchange.

This is a developing story.
