OpenAI’s Sam Altman Unveils new AI feature in GPT-4o

Sam Altman, the CEO of artificial intelligence firm OpenAI, has announced the launch of a new feature in their AI tool GPT-4o. The new feature promises to bring greater quality to pictures created by the AI model.

Sam Altman has stated on his X post (formerly known as Twitter) that, “The new version of images in ChatGPT is still rolling out, so please try again later today if you don’t get a great one. He further added that, “It’s an incredible technology/product. I remember seeing some of the first images come out of this model and having a hard time they were made by AI. We think people will love it, and we are excited to see the resulting creativity.”

He also said that, “What we’d like to aim for is that the tool doesn’t create offensive stuff unless you want it to, in which case, within reason, it does. As we talk about in our model spec, we think putting this intellectual freedom and control in the hands of users is the right thing to do, but we will observe how it goes and listen to society.”

Sam Altman said that he believes that providing freedom in the hands of users is a perfect approach, but he further said that the company will closely monitor how the tool is used and adjust policies accordingly.

He said that, “We think putting this intellectual freedom and control in the hands of users is the right thing to do, but we will observe how it goes and listen to society. We think respecting the expansive bounds society will eventually choose to set for AI is the right thing to do, and increasingly important as we get closer to AGI.”

Additionally, the company has announced that its new AI tool can enhance the text within images, demonstrating a stronger commitment to user prompts and the ability to create visuals that evolve through continuous improvements.

Further, GPT-4o utilizes its advanced features for understanding the language and images. This advanced feature allows it to create images that incorporate structured text, symbols, and diagrams. This approach enhances communication beyond mere aesthetics.

A key feature of GPT-4o is its multi-turn generation capability, which allows users to refine their images through natural conversations. This feature is especially beneficial for design applications, such as character creation or branding, where maintaining visual consistency across multiple iterations is essential.

Its instruction-following has also been improved, which allows GPT-4o to represent 10 to 20 objects in a single scene. The tool also supports in-context learning, enabling users to upload reference images that GPT-4o will analyze and use in its outputs.

Currently, this new image generation feature is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, and Free users as the default image generator. Enterprise and education users will gain access shortly, with API support expected to follow in the coming weeks.
