A New Era of Crypto Spending

In a significant move toward bridging the gap between digital assets and everyday finance, Mercuryo has launched ‘Spend’, a crypto debit card exclusively powered by Mastercard. Developed in collaboration with Ledger, a global leader in digital asset security, the Spend card enables users to convert and spend their cryptocurrency holdings as easily as fiat currency—online or in-store.

Currently available to customers across the European Economic Area (EEA), the Spend card empowers users to make purchases from more than 150 million merchants worldwide wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Seamless Integration with Ledger Live

Spend is fully integrated within Ledger Live, Ledger’s companion app for managing cryptocurrencies and NFTs. This enables instant and fee-free card activation, with funds sourced directly from users’ self-custody wallets. At launch, the card supports Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), with plans to expand to stablecoins and other tokens soon.

We are delighted to launch Spend in Ledger, the preeminent non-custodial hardware wallet that has won a huge cult-like following among crypto enthusiasts, having made self-custody both accessible – and cool,” said Petr Kozyakov, Co-Founder and CEO of Mercuryo.

Empowering Users with Choice and Control

With a user-centric approach, the Spend card offers flexible spending limits, capped at €40,000 per month, and compatibility with both Apple Pay and Google Pay for added convenience. It also brings the security and consumer protections of Mastercard’s global payments network, including AML and KYC compliance.

This is the second service provided by Mercuryo to Ledger Live users, after crypto purchase services. Card programs that offer the ability to integrate directly with self-custody give users the best possible experience,” added Jean-Francois Rochet, EVP of Consumer Services at Ledger.

Simplifying Web3 Payments

Mercuryo continues to lead innovation in the Web3 payments space, offering streamlined on-chain payment options and integrating various banking methods into a single, user-friendly interface. Since 2018, Mercuryo has partnered with key players in the crypto ecosystem like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and PancakeSwap.

As Ledger celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2024, it remains a cornerstone in digital asset security, trusted by over seven million users and securing over 20% of the world’s crypto assets. In an era where over $14 billion was lost to fraud and theft in 2023, solutions like Spend represent a critical advancement in secure, accessible digital finance.

Conclusion:
The launch of the Spend card marks a pivotal step in crypto adoption, turning digital tokens into real-world spending power with the backing of trusted industry leaders. With its smooth integration, global usability, and emphasis on security, Spend brings crypto one step closer to everyday usability.
