Tether, the world’s leading stablecoin issuer, is making significant strides in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Paolo Ardoino, the company’s CEO, revealed on February 4 that Tether Data, the firm’s AI division, is actively developing several innovative applications, including AI Translate, AI Voice Assistant, and an AI-powered Bitcoin Wallet Assistant.
These AI-driven solutions aim to enhance user experiences by introducing smarter, autonomous tools that operate locally on any device. According to Ardoino, “Tether will soon launch its own AI SDK [software development kit] platform, open-source, built upon Bare, working on every hardware, from embedded devices to powerful servers.”
Autonomous Bitcoin Wallet Assistance
A demonstration of the AI Bitcoin Wallet Assistant highlighted its potential. The chatbot interface autonomously managed user interactions, answering questions about wallet addresses, BTC balances, and address book entries. It even facilitated sending a small Bitcoin transaction on the user’s behalf.
AI Translate, another tool under development, is a straightforward translation application powered by AI, while the AI Voice Assistant responds to voice inputs, providing a hands-free, conversational experience for users.
Tether’s foray into AI isn’t new. In 2023, the company acquired a stake in Northern Data Group, a European cloud computing and AI specialist. The move laid the foundation for its AI initiatives. By March, Tether had launched a global recruitment drive, signaling its intention to lead in AI-driven innovation.
Record-Breaking Profits Fuel Innovation
Tether’s recent financial success has provided ample resources for its AI ventures. The firm reported a staggering $13 billion profit in 2024 and disclosed a $113 billion portfolio of US government bonds. Its flagship stablecoin, USDT, continues to thrive, with its market capitalization hitting an all-time high of $141 billion after issuing another billion dollars’ worth on February 5.
Looking ahead, Ardoino hinted at an ambitious roadmap for Tether’s AI platform, with a targeted launch by the end of Q1 2025. With a clear focus on privacy, self-custodial solutions, and autonomous functionalities, Tether aims to redefine the intersection of AI and cryptocurrency.
